There has been an exponential increase in the number of organizations allowing access to the internet despite the fact that the internet is not secure. To further complicate the matter, vendors, standard bodies, security organizations, and practitioners cannot agree on a standard compliant and technically available approach.

Do's

Download and install the anti-virus update as per the procedure specified by ADMIN.

Use the systems and services only after authorization

Implement reasonable care to access sites of hackers

At customer locations, abide by customer's policies and requirements as well as the relevant sections of your company's policies

Adhere to all software copyrights and licensing agreements

Download shareware and freeware only after authorization from the Head

Uninstall shareware or any software installed for evaluation purpose on expiry of the period for which its authorized use is permitted

Connect to the internet only through the corporate firewall, when on organization network


Don'ts

Use company equipment, functions or services for non-business related activities while on company time

Use the equipment or services for financial or commercial gain

Use the equipment or services for illegal activity

Dial in usage from home for Internet services for personal gain

Access non business related news groups and or BBS

Willful intent to degrade or disrupt equipment, software or system performance

Vandalize the data or information of another user

Gain unauthorized access to resources or information

Invade the privacy of individuals

Masquerade using an account owned by another user

Post anonymous messages or mail for malicious intent

Download, store, print or display files or messages that are profane, obscene or use language or graphics that offends or tends to degrade others

Transmit company data over the network to outsiders

Load software obtained from outside
