Bad Passwords

The following items are all examples of poor passwords:

  • Any name (yours, friends, family, pets)
  • Anything personal (car, hobby, sports team)
  • Any Dates (Birthdays, Anniversary)
  • A simple word that can be found easily in any dictionary
  • Any combination of numbers

The reason that words and numbers are poor passwords is the ease in which a computer can figure them out. It is a matter of moments to check millions of combinations of numbers and words. So, even though your password: ‘COMBINATION' is a long word, it can be found almost instantly.

It has been found that in organizations with more than a 100 employees at least 50% of those employees will have statistically poor passwords. In some organizations it is not uncommon for 100% of the passwords to be poor. So if you have fall into that category don't feel bad.
