India Cyber Lab evolved as a unique public-private partnership project, out of the first-ever Cyber Safety Week in 2003. This week was jointly organised by Mumbai Police and NASSCOM, with whole-hearted support from IT companies in Mumbai. The surplus generated out of the sponsorships of the Week saw creation of Mumbai Cyber Lab (MCL), which proved a prototype for the concept of India Cyber Lab. Dr Pradnya Saravade, the then DCP, Enforcement, Mumbai Police and Mr Vijay Mukhi took the leading role in making MCL possible. MCL was inaugurated on 8 March 2004 by Mr A.N. Roy, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai.
